Just wondering if anyone else thinks it odd that our schools are not closed for Veterans Day. Apparently it is a federal holiday, but local and state communities make their own decisions as to whether or not they close.
I personally am overwhelmingly grateful to the many men and women who put themselves in harm’s way to defend our freedoms. Can’t imagine a more worthy or important holiday.
The good news is that our country as a totality seems to share this respect. Last night I saw a news feature on the commitment both Starbucks and Walmart have made to hiring veterans. Excellent! The President is pushing to end homelessness for veterans within the next 12 months. And there is renewed focus on the VA hospitals to make their service worthy of the people they serve. About time.
On this day – to every veteran – THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
